Learning Objectives
The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increased interest in infection prevention and control (IPC), especially related to respiratory protection. There have been an estimated 23,000 cases of COVID-19 among health workers globally. Nurses and other frontline health workers are at an increased risk of exposure of disease (COVID-19, TB, etc.) and there are an estimated 23,000 health workers infected globally. With the current global shortage of respirators and masks, many health workers must re-use respirators. This webinar will discuss airborne infection control measures, types of respiratory protection and their different uses, safe re-use, how to set up a respiratory protection program at the facility level and how to fit test health workers for respirators.

  1. Introduce airborne transmission (e.g. TB, COVID-19, etc.) concept and airborne infection control

  2. Discuss key components of personal protective equipment (PPE) with a focus on respiratory protection

  3. Discuss how to develop a respiratory protection program including fit testing for respirators
